Apnea - Ethereal Solitude CD (Immortal Frost) Shoegaze Post Black Metal sorrow and sadness that experiments with many types of influences. The most unique aspect is the vocal sound. Very far back in the mix, sort of a doubled chanted/shouted/spoken sound with occasional sung parts backing the dreamlike synths. Apnea followup their 2012 EP with a full-length most of the time ethereal and quite dreamy, the compositions are also infused with aggressive parts of Black Metal origins. Sad, nostalgic, and quite depressive, the music fits the album title perfectly, and the overall outcome of this new Apnea release is well done, with a solid impact on the listener, and one that leaves the impression these guys can change something, and present something totally new.
